75 years after the Reichspogromnacht (9 November 1938) this DCD is paying tribute to the musicians of the concentration camp „Terezin“ (near Prague).Theresienstadt had housed not only writers, painters, film directors and cabaret artists but also important composers, musicians and conductors. As a musician with German-Jewish roots, Daniel Hope has for many years been keen to examine the music that was written at the time of the National Socialist tyranny. The concert that he gave at the Bavarian Academy of Fine Art in March 2012 with the mezzo-soprano Anne Sofie von Otter, the pianist Bengt Forsberg and the accordionist, bassist and guitarist Bebe Risenfors made one thing clear above all else: these works by Viktor Ullmann, Erwin Schulhoff and Pavel Haas are all filled with genuine emotion and attest to great artistic power.
